Gun Range
Basics |
The Ammu-Nation gun range is unlocked after the mission "Doberman"
for Sweet. The gun range is there to help you increase your weapon
skills, although it's actually a lot easier if you already have maxed
out skills. The best way to do that is to just shoot a vehicle in your
garage until it catches fire, let the door close, then begin again.
After about 1,000 shots you should be hitman. Anyway, the gun range
requires you to play through 4 different levels, each with 3 rounds of
shooting. You play against 2 other shooters and you need to destroy a
number of different targets as quickly as possible. On the first round,
there are three targets to destroy and they will be stationary. The
first will be right at the front, second a bit further away and last
will be the
furthest. On the next round there'll be three targets again only they'll
start at the back and move forward towards you. After all three have
been destroyed you'll be onto the final round where you are literally
competing with the other guys and you will all be shooting one target
which will randomly drop down and move across the area before retreating
back up. The final round has a first to 20 limit, so you need to make
sure you hit more targets than the other two computer characters. This
is the same on all levels; Pistol, Micro SMG, Shotgun and AK-47 although your
skills will have to alter slightly with each weapon. Each big target has
5 little destruction points, these are the head, left upper torso, right
upper torso, left lower torso and right lower torso. You'll need to
destroy them all before you move onto another. Please note that I
believe you will have to find the actual weapons in game before they are
unlocked in the gun range challenge. Finding them also unlocks them to
be purchased at Ammu-Nation.
To start the challenge, enter any of the following Ammu-Nation's and
stand in the large red circle at the back of the store. This will take
you into the gun range and start the competition. The Ammu-Nation stores
are marked by a gun icon on the radar so they're easy to find. You'll
find them at:
Downtown, Los Santos
Blueberry, Countryside
Palomino Creek, Countryside
Ocean Flats, San Fierro
El Quebrados, Desert
Come-A-Lot, Las Venturas
Old Venturas Strip, Las Venturas |

Pistol |
The first level which you'll need to complete is the pistol
challenge. This is relatively easy and you can take your time with it as
the other two characters will just shoot as fast as they can. I'd advise
you to just aim carefully and tap L1 or Circle a few times to ensure you
hit the target. You are always more accurate if you tap the trigger,
rather than holding it. The targets will only be destroyed if your
crosshair is on the little red crosshair icon, so there's no point in
spraying your bullets if you're not even aiming at it.
Round 1
Take it easy and aim carefully. You should really just be able to
take out each target with 5 shots if you aim carefully enough, but if
you see the opponents starting to get onto the last target and destroy
it, start firing quicker. It's not too difficult if you aim properly and
take the time to ensure you're on target. You can hold down L1 or Circle
providing you're definitely on target, then you can just aim upwards and
clear the whole left or right sides of the target. Once all three have
been destroyed you'll be onto round 2.
Round 2
This time the targets will move towards you, so you'll need to
constantly change your aiming to be sure of hitting them. Try to take
out as many as you can while it's further back as it becomes easier to
hit them while they're close, but that's easier for everyone, not just
you. You might want to spray your bullets for this one, and once you
clear a target, keep firing so you can reload your gun for the next
target. This isn't really too hard to just keep shooting and you should
win.
Round 3
The final Pistol challenge involves fighting the two CPU characters
to see who can hit a target the most. The target will come from a random
place, either to your right or left, and move across in front of you, so
you need to be looking around and waiting for it, then just aim
carefully and keep spraying until you hit as many targets as you can.
You need to be the first to 20 to win. |
Micro SMG |
The second level which you'll need to complete is the Micro SMG
challenge. This is slightly more difficult than the pistol challenge,
but not by much. I'd advise you to just aim carefully and tap L1 or
Circle a few times to ensure you hit the target, similar to the pistol
challenge. You are always more accurate if you tap the trigger, rather
than holding it. The targets will only be destroyed if your crosshair is
on the little red crosshair icon, so there's no point in spraying your
bullets if you're not even aiming at it.
Round 1
Take it easy and aim carefully. It's not too difficult if you aim
properly and take the time to ensure you're on target. You can hold down
L1 or Circle providing you're definitely on target, then you can just
aim upwards and clear the whole left or right sides of the target. The
recoil is a lot worse on an automatic machine gun however. Once all
three have been destroyed you'll be onto round 2.
Round 2
This time the targets will move towards you, so you'll need to
constantly change your aiming to be sure of hitting them. Try to take
out as many as you can while it's further back as it becomes easier to
hit them while they're close, but that's easier for everyone, not just
you. You might want to spray your bullets for this one, and once you
clear a target, keep firing so you can reload your gun for the next
target. This isn't really too hard to just keep shooting and you should
win.
Round 3
The final SMG challenge involves fighting the two CPU characters to
see who can hit a target the most. The target will come from a random
place, either to your right or left, and move across in front of you, so
you need to be looking around and waiting for it, then just aim
carefully and keep spraying until you hit as many targets as you can.
You need to be the first to 20 to win. This round is incredibly easy to
win if you already have Hitman on your Micro SMG. With dual guns you
have twice the ammunition and twice the accuracy, so you can just aim
for the target and spray for 4 seconds or so, where you'll definitely
clear out 3 of the 5. |
Shotgun |
The shotgun challenge is probably the most difficult challenge in
the gun range. I would really advise you to master the shotgun using the
"shoot car" trick, because you need faster reloading to be able to do
this well.
Round 1
Hold down L1 and aim for the bottom target, shoot it, then move up
while you're reloading. Shoot that and move to the next and so on. You
should definitely destroy a target with every shot on this round.
Round 2
This time the targets will move towards you, so you'll need to
constantly change your aiming to be sure of hitting them. Just behave
similar to the first round and once again you should be able to hit a
target with roughly every shot. Keep going until the end.
Round 3
This is the hardest part, because the computer players are
incredibly accurate, however you just need to have quick reflexes and
aim for any targets they miss. They will generally take out two at a
time, so try to get in there just as it comes down and then shoot the 2
of 3 which have been missed by them. You'll probably lose most of the
rounds but you should be able to make a come-back in the last few if the
scores are within 2 or 3 points. |
AK-47 |
The final challenge is the AK-47. Much like the Micro SMG, this is a
bit easier with hitman already, although it's not too hard anyway, just
keep shooting at the targets, the aim and zoom is good enough to allow
you to aim accurately.
Round 1
Take it easy and aim carefully. I'd advise spraying the bullets and
trying to aim for the targets while they're shooting, but tapping L1
will also work if you can aim well enough.
Round 2
This time the targets will move towards you, so you'll need to
constantly change your aiming to be sure of hitting them. Try to take
out as many as you can while it's further back as it becomes easier to
hit them while they're close, but that's easier for everyone, not just
you. You might want to spray your bullets for this one, and once you
clear a target, keep firing so you can reload your gun for the next
target. This isn't really too hard to just keep shooting and you should
win.
Round 3
Round 3 will require you to spray your bullets at any targets left
by the cpu players. I'd suggest aiming for the bottom two first, then
head up and go for the ones they didn't get. Keep firing, and it should
be too difficult to hit more targets than they get.
Ammu-Nation Gun Challenge Complete!
You'll earn some cash as well as having all four of those weapons
increased to Hitman. |
