Driving School
The Driving School is located in San Fierro and will be unlocked after you
complete the mission "Deconstruction" for the garage. Jethro will call you and
tell you where it is located. You'll find it just to the South of the garage
with a small car park in front of the main doorway.
The Driving School requires 12 small objectives to be completed as best as
possible. You will need over 70% on every objective in order to complete the
school, however getting a better rating will improve your driving skill and
allow you to unlock special vehicles. This guide will try to explain the best
techniques to get Gold on all of the objectives, because everyone knows that if
you can get gold, you can get bronze easier!
Completing all of the objectives with at least Bronze will unlock the Super GT.
Completing all of the objectives with at least Silver will unlock the Bullet.
Completing all of the objectives with at least Gold will unlock the Hotknife.

The 360 |
Description
Use the rear wheel drive car to do a burnout donut.

Tactics
This one is pretty simple, as you'd expect by the first mission in the
first school you've most likely done. All you need to do is hold down X
and Square, then hold down left or right and let the car spin around
360�, then try to stop it in the exact place you started. This is a bit
tricky, but once you get the hang of it, you shouldn't have too much
trouble. Usually stopping with about 3 seconds remaining should put you
almost right in the center of the required spot.

The 180 |
Description
To do a 180, accelerate to top speed, press R1 to handbrake around the
cone and then return.

Tactics
This one isn't too hard either. You'll need to speed forwards, perhaps
going slightly to the left or right, whichever you prefer, then use R1
to perform a handbrake turn as you pass the last cone. Speed back up
towards the start and level your self up with the middle cone, then try
to stop right in the middle of the "square" of cones. It'll take a few
tries, but once you get used to how the car handles, you'll be able to
make better judgements on when to brake in order to stop in time.

Whip And Terminate |
Description
Powerslide around a tight corner and stop in the allocated area.

This is very easy indeed. Speed forwards until just before you get to
the oil stain on the floor. Release X and glide around the corner while
tapping R1 to slide, then just hold X when you're straight and position
yourself up with the middle of the cone square.

Pop And Control |
Description
Drive to the end of the track, a tire will blow out half way there. For
extra control, release the accelerate button.

Tactics
If you've been used to driving with popped tires, such as by playing
Vice City, this shouldn't really be too much trouble. Speed straight
towards the stinger, then as soon as you pop, let go of X and let the
car glide to the right. You may have to tap X once or twice here, then
push it back over to the left and try to position it in between the
cones. You'll run out of time almost just as you stop, but if you
remember to let go of X, this isn't much of a difficult task.

Burn And Lap |
Description
Do 5 laps in as quick a time as possible. Target time is under 40
seconds.

Tactics
This is arguably the hardest objective at this school. You need to make
pretty much 5 perfect laps around the small track without crashing or
spinning out once. For gold you'll need to finish it in under 36
seconds, which is really only possible if you bend the rules a bit.
Knocking over a cone will not give you a damage penalty, but smashing
them will. If you carefully make a sharp corner, you can knock the end
cones slightly inwards, which makes the actual course a bit smaller.
You'll still have to skid at the right time in order to turn around as
sharply as possible, but the overturned cones can take about half a
second off each lap. When skidding around the corner use R1 and Square
which will keep you from spinning out, then hold X as soon as you're
around and speed forward, then skid again at the next corner. You need
to keep attempting this until you get a perfect run, and if you actually
manage it, pray that you get less than 36 seconds for gold. This one was
probably the only school mission out of them all which I actually got
frustrated with and couldn't do for a long time.

Cone Coil |
Description
Weave through the cones quickly and then return to the start position.

Tactics
This is a nice break after having to do the previous objective. All
you'll need to do is head slightly to the left and right, then vice
versa. After that, make a 180 around the cone at the bottom and do the
same back to the top where you'll need to stop in the middle of the
square. This really just includes about three other objectives into one
so it's not too hard. When making the weaving route towards the cones
try to keep the corners sharp and just barely miss the cones to save
time.

The '90' |
Description
To do a 90, slide the car sideways into the parking space within five
seconds.

Tactics
This is pretty difficult to get perfect, but it's not that hard to
complete. You'll need to speed towards the car to the right or left,
whichever you prefer. I'd advise speeding right towards the center of
the car to the side then just as you get to the oil stains on the ground
let go of X, then about half a second later, hold R1 to skid and try to
guide the car into the gap. You'll really just have to keep trying until
you get the hang of it, but driving out and narrowing the angle can make
it a bit easier.

Wheelie Weave |
Description
Keep the car on two wheels until the end of the track.

Tactics
While this may luck like a difficult task, it can be made relatively
easy. Granted you'll really need luck to get he car to land facing
perfectly straight, but instead of holding X while you try to balance
out the car, just tap it. This will improve the balance of the
vehicle and it will make it easier for you to try to level out the car.
If you hit the ramp at the right place you should be able to carry all
of the way to the red circle where you can use the handbrake to stop.

Spin And Go |
Description
Use the front wheel drive car to reverse then quickly spin around 180
degrees. Press L2 and R2 together to look behind.

Tactics
You'd expect that the more you do the harder they get, and they do, but
in this case it's probably easier than the first few. Literally all you
need to do is hold L2 and R2 to look behind, then reverse using square.
Just as you reach the oil stains on the ground just hold left or right
and let the car spin around 180�, then try to stop before you hit the
cones. Then just drive a few meters forward and stop in the middle of
the cones.

P.I.T. Maneuver |
Description
Perform a P.I.T. Maneuver to spin the other car around with minimum
damage. Finish as close to the other car as possible.

Tactics
Watch the short movie before starting the mission and you'll see just
what you're going to do. Speed to the left side of the speeding police
car, then just as the front of your car gets level with the back tire of
the speeding car, make a sharp right and hit the tail end of the
vehicle. If you do it right, the car will spin around right in front of
you, and you'll need to use your car to keep the car spinning around by
holding left as you accelerate. Once it's gone all of the way around
you'll need to pull to the right and try to stop with the front of your
car touching the back of the other one. When actually making contact
with the car, make sure you're pretty much just pushing it's back end
out, not smashing into it because you can't do any damage to the vehicle
for gold.

Alley Oop |
Description
Do a barrel roll in mid air and land it perfectly. While in the air,
release the accelerate button and move the left analog stick to adjust
the car's pitch.

Tactics
This is another which is pretty straight forward. You just need to speed
towards the ramp, then get your two left or right wheels off the side of
the ramp and then let go of X in the air. Roll the car towards the
direction which your wheels are off the side and try to land it in the
same position you started. It doesn't matter how far you go providing
you actually land straight. Rolling your car will cause the damage to
increase to 100%.

City Slicking |
Description
Drive to the other side of the city and back without damaging the car.
The target time is UNDER 120 seconds (2 minutes).

Tactics
From the start, head to the right and follow the road down past the
garage. Stay in the middle of the tram tracks and keep going all of the
way until you get to the top of the steep ish hill. Make a right just at
the top of the hill and cut the corner then head down the slight slope
and make a left. You'll need to brake here and go down the steep,
curving street where you'll be able to crab the checkpoint. From here
head out to the right and speed along the relatively easy road under the
bridges and towards the docks at Easter Basin. Make your way around the
corner and pass the Xoomer Gas Station, then cut across the grass just
past that and get back onto the road. Follow it forward and enter the
tunnel to the left and follow that all of the way back up to the main
road. Get back on the tracks and speed along past the garage again, then
get to the top of the hill and speed to the right into the checkpoint.
This is definitely possible in under 120 seconds, but to get gold you'll
need under 100 seconds and no damage. You'll probably have to try this a
few times until you get lucky with the traffic, but once you know the
best route to take it's not hard apart from trying to avoid collisions.
